Adding to the pile-on faced by United Airlines after it forcibly removed a passenger from an oversold flight, three of its rivals are publicly taunting the company.
Emirate Airlines quickly capitalized on United's viral fall from grace, posting a 35-second Twitter spot that not only repurposed their competitor's "friendly skies" slogan, but also boasted its own "best airline" ranking.
Earlier this week, Emirates was named the best airline in the world, best economy class and best first class carrier of the year, by the travel website Tripadvisor. United did not make the cut.
It's sweet revenge for Emirates since United CEO Oscar Munoz dubbed Emirates and other Middle Eastern carriers "not real airlines" last month.
Royal Jordanian Airlines seized the opportunity too. In a tweet, the company noted "dragging is strictly prohibited."
Similarly, Turkish Airlines — which had its own viral news story over the weekend when its crew helped deliver a baby mid-flight — responded to a tweet from former publisher Arianna Huffington commending their customer service and "involuntarily adding" of a passenger.
A doctored slogan from Southwest Airlines, which reads "We beat the competition, not you" has also been circulating, but has not been shared from an official airline account.
And last month, Delta Airlines dissed United after staff insisted that two girls, who were daughters of United employees, change out of their leggings to better represent the company.
United has yet to respond to these recent jabs from its competitors, but it's a little busy deflecting this latest controversy.
