Preliminary hearing set for former central Alberta teacher facing sex charges

RED DEER, Alta. — A preliminary hearing has been ordered for a former central Alberta high school teacher facing sex-related charges.

Rhett Lundgren, who was a teacher at a Red Deer high school in 2008, is charged with sexual exploitation and luring.

RCMP charged him in January after a woman, who was 17 at the time of the alleged offences, stepped forward.

Lundgren has pleaded not guilty and has elected to be tried by judge alone.

The preliminary hearing has been set for Jan. 17 in Red Deer to determine if there is enough evidence to send the case to trial.

The 40-year-old Lundgren also faces charges in Saskatoon of arranging to commit a sexual offence against a child and attempting to access child pornography.
