Dutchman Haase tops Schwartzman to reach Rogers Cup semifinals

MONTREAL — Dutchman Robin Haase reached his first career Masters Series semifinal with a 4-6, 6-3, 6-3 victory over Diego Schwartzman of Argentina on Friday at the Rogers Cup.

Haase will face the winner between second-seeded Roger Federer and Roberto Bautista Agut in the semifinals on Saturday.

The 30-year-old Haase, ranked 52nd in the world, improved to 5-0 against 36th-ranked Schwartzman in his career.

Other quarter-finals later Friday have Denis Shapovalov of Richmond Hill, Ont., against Adrian Mannarino of France and fourth-seeded Alexander Zverev of Germany against South African Kevin Anderson.
