Nov. 20 Is Transgender Day Of Remembrance. Here's What That Means.

People who died from of anti-trans violence will not be forgotten.

Nov. 20 marks Transgender Day of Remembrance, an annual observance that honours the trans and gender-nonconforming people who have been killed.

The Trans Murder Monitoring research project found that 331 trans and gender-diverse people worldwide were killed in the last year. The majority of the murders — 130 of them — occurred in Brazil. Many people were shot, while others were stabbed or beaten.

“Violence against trans and gender-diverse people frequently overlaps with other axes of oppression prevalent in society, such as racism, sexism, misogyny, xenophobia, and anti-sex worker sentiment and discrimination,” the report adds.
