No True Muslim Would Shoot a Young Girl

The shooting of the young Pakistani activist shows one thing: Fanatics are cowards who stand on a shallow ground and can not defend themselves even against a child. Instead, they resort to violence to silence their critics. They lack confidence and are weak to the bone.

As news organizations reported, Malala Yousufzai was shot and seriously wounded on Tuesday as she was leaving her school in her hometown in the Swat valley, northwest of the capital, Islamabad. This incident should mobilize Muslims to try to remove what I call "ugly Muslims" from running the show and occupying the steering wheel.

I used to dismiss the outcry coming from Afghanistan regarding the human rights violations of the hard line Taliban who denied people from their basic rights including women from going to school and getting medical treatment. I used to dismiss these claims as Western anti-Islam propaganda. I could not imagine a Muslim would do such a thing. The allegations were about everything that goes against the teachings of Islam.

Not long afterwards, our people in Somalia received the same curse as the people of Afghanistan. Murderers -- Al-Shabab -- had disguised themselves under religion and started persecuting people in the most vicious manner, not even witnessed during the colonial era. Al-Shabab has reminded me of the Christian terrorists who waged merciless war against the innocent in East Africa.

According to Wikipedia: The Lord's Resistance Army (LRA), also known as the Lord's Resistance Movement, is a militant group/cult operating in northern Uganda, South Sudan, the Democratic Republic of Congo, and the Central African Republic. It has been accused of widespread human rights violations, including murder, abduction, mutilation, child-sex slavery and forcing children to participate in hostilities.

Al-Shabab did not even leave the dead lying in their graveyards in peace. They had violated the sanctity of the dead by demolishing the graveyards and removing the human remains.

It is sad and shameful to see these thugs -- the Taliban, Al-Shabab, the LRA -- committing horrific crimes against humanity in the name of religion. Had they joined mafia or other gang groups, then committing atrocities would have been one thing, but doing their dirty work in the name of the faith is a great insult to those who follow the faith and to the faith itself.
