The Right to Bear Arms Is Wrong

Words cannot describe the agony and pain felt by the families who have lost loved once in the mass shooting that had taken place at the Sandy Hook Elementary School in Newton, Connecticut on Friday....

Shame on Anti-Muslims for Criticizing CP

Shame on Anti-Muslims for Criticizing Trudeau

Anti-Muslim bigots have gone too far in criticizing Justin Trudeau for his anticipated speech at a major Islamic conference that is going to be held towards the end of the month in Toronto. I find it disheartening to have hate-mongers trying to muzzle a convention like this one where people gather from all over the continent to nourish their souls.

Rob Ford Didn't Deserve to Be CP

Rob Ford Didn't Deserve to Be Fired

Mr. Ford should not be treated differently than anyone else. I am not implying that he should be above the law. We should be fair when applying the severity of our legal system. Other politicians who have been involved in much more serious offences should have been treated as such. With respect, I consider the sentence against Rob Ford to be a little too harsh.

Western Leaders Should Support Justice, Not Israel

I have noticed one trend over the years: We in the west preach about justice until we lose air in our lungs, but when it comes to the Middle East, we fail to uphold the same principles we preach to the rest of the world. We stand behind Israel irrespective of whether it is right or wrong.

Seven Skills Martial Arts Can Teach You

Martial arts is certainly not the solution to all forms of bullies but it can certainly make the difference in the lives of many kids by building their personalities. It would be worthwhile even if it saves one soul in the long run. Children can learn a lot more than just how to do a good roundhouse kick at their local karate class.

So What if Obama Were a Muslim?

It is deeply worrisome and disturbing to see the amount of hate that is out there against Muslims. Obama failed to stand up against the bigots who started spreading misinformation about his religious beliefs. He should have silenced them by asking them, "so what if I were a Muslim?"

McGuinty Was a Premier Who Understood Immigrants

I got the chance to meet Dalton McGuinty in person on several occasions especially at the International Muslim Organization of Toronto, which is one of the largest Muslim centers and it is the hub of different ethnic communities from Muslim countries. He kept repeating himself that he was the son of immigrant whose ancestors came to this country as everyone else -- looking for hope and a decent life.

No True Muslim Would Shoot a Young Girl

The shooting of the young Pakistani activist shows one thing: Fanatics are cowards who resort to violence to silence their critics. Malala Yousufzai was shot and seriously wounded on Tuesday as she was leaving her school in her hometown. It is sad and shameful to see these thugs committing horrific crimes against humanity in the name of religion. Doing their dirty work in the name of the faith is a great insult to those who follow the faith and to the faith itself.

The Arbitrary Limits to Freedom of Expression

I am sensing a high level of double standard here where freedom of expression is abused and misused according to the whims and desires of people. When the victim is Islam and Muslims, then, it has no limits. It is like an open buffet where it is all you can eat. But when it is about others, like Kate Middleton or abortion in Canada, then, you better watch your mouth.

Omar Khadr: Canadian or Second Class CP

Omar Khadr: Canadian or Second Class Citizen?

The arrival of Omar Khadr on Canadian soil was long overdue. It is the right thing to do and justice has finally been served. This saga has put our values and principles to the test. These people who are upset to see the government's move to bring him back to Canada should learn to accept the reality of our system. The system should be applied the same to everyone whether the person in question is someone we like or not. Learning from the Omar Khadr saga, I am fearful and uneasy. In spite of been granted citizenship, I feel that I am somehow judged as someone else -- perhaps a second class citizen. Perhaps there should be first class, second class and even third class Canadian citizenship. At least we would know who we really are and each person would know what to expect.

The "Innoncence of Muslims" Promotes Hate, Not Dialogue

Canadians who value tolerance, respect and harmony should not listen to the voices of people like Chris Selley of the National Post who wrote that the media should show clips of the anti-Islam film behind the outrage if it offends people or not. Why on earth would anyone go out of their way to screen this obnoxious product, unless it is to inflict further hurt on Muslims and inflame more anger? Those who are portraying themselves as advocates of freedom of expression are hypocrites in the highest order. Canadians should listen to balanced voices that bring people together at a time when hatred is taking its toll on humanity.

Muslim Hooligans Know Not the Prophet They Defend

Those emotionally-charged hooligans who went ballistic in their protests probably know little about the prophet they claim to defend. They most likely know more about movie stars like Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie than they know their own prophet. Had they known a little about his character, they would not have gone wild as they did in their protest.

Shutting Iranian Embassy Was for Netanyahu, Not Canadians

The Conservative government has made the wrong decision here, not for the interest of the country but to appease the hard-line leadership of Israel which is eager to wage a war against Iran. Canada, a country that was respected around the world as a peace broker, has failed its citizens and the world for taking an unwise decision that would help no one in the long run except the warmongers.

Why Can't Canadians Defend Themselves in Their Own Homes?

How much force is too much when a stranger attempts to steal your property or break into your house? In one case, Moses Mahilal is being charged with assaulting an intruder. The law should be changed to create a sense of deterrent and to send a strong message to the would-be intruder. The sky should be the limit as to what could he or she should expect for violating the sanctity of other people and terrorizing their homes.

How Muslims Can Bring Back Respect to PA

How Muslims Can Bring Back Respect to Islam

One of the most effective ways to counter the rising anti-Muslim sentiment is not only through words, issuing statements and being on the reactive and defensive mode all the time but through a more proactive mechanism to show what Muslims are all about. The anti-Muslim prejudice can only be countered through active participation in the society -- something I witnessed on the last day of Ramadan, at the International Muslim Organization of Toronto.

Why I Love Canada: The Charter of Rights and Freedom

I have crossed oceans and travelled miles to come to Canada, not because of its weather, to watch hockey or to enjoy what Tim Horton's has to offer on its menu. Many people choose Canada to enjoy a life of liberty and freedom -- freedom of conscience and religion; freedom of thought and belief, freedom of opinion and expression; freedom of peaceful assembly; and freedom of association as guaranteed by the Charter of Rights and Freedom.

Is Justin Trudeau Too Big a Baby to be Leader?

Trudeau is still a baby in the political arena who has a long road ahead of him. Before a baby can walk, he must first learn how to crawl.Trudeau will not receive votes for what he has accomplished. He will receive attention because of who his father was. This is not healthy for him, nor for the people he will be vowing to serve and protect.

Bring Back the Death Penalty for Brutal Murderers

Keeping brutal murderers behind bars, feeding and educating them with taxpayer's money is an insult to the victims and a mockery to the justice system. The death penalty is the only punishment that suits the crime of murder; it creates a sense of balance in the scales of justice.

Canada's "Muslim Problem" is Not the One Most Think it Is

More than half of all Canadians believe Muslims can't be trusted, and nearly as many believe discrimination against Muslims is "mainly their fault,'' according to the results of a new national survey. Muslims are facing a tremendous amount of ignorance from Canadian society.
