When I was in university my political views were pretty straight forward. The school bubble made it easy to be passionate and lean one way on the political scale. Then I started paying taxes. Now I face my first federal election as a taxpayer and my views have shifted since the bubble burst.

When I read my daughter's article about her "Cheap Week" it warmed my heart that she is as cheap as I was. It brought back memories of my own youthful financial desperation. It's good to know that she's inherited the family cheap streak. I, too, had to be cheap, so why did I get concerned when I realized my daughter was tippy toeing around the poverty line?

Our individual lives, which had expanded to include activities and friends that were not possible during the child rearing years, were not curtailed. We started to enjoy the company of our adult daughter and were able to offer help with cover letters and resume writing.

There are no secret dates no matter how hard you try. Turns out, my parents are kind of smart. I didn't want my dates to meet my parents because, well, I didn't want to have that awkward "let me introduce you to my mom" exchange. She asks everyone extremely personal questions. So I lied about my dates. Luckily, or unfortunately, (depending on your perspective) I didn't have to lie a lot.
