The stalled Ring of Fire mining project finds itself at a critical crossroads with governments in Ottawa and Ontario needing to work together now more than ever. That will mean leadership that actually engages all parties and contributes to sustainable development.
Federal NDP MP
Claude Gravelle is the federal NDP MP for Nickel Belt in Northern Ontario which includes Greater Sudbury, named as one of the three main mining sector hubs in Canada. (Canadian Chamber of commerce report 2013) Claude is chair of the 20-MP Federal NDP mining caucus. Since 2011, he has been a member of Parliament’s Natural Resources Committee where he initiated a study on the Ring of Fire project. Among his private member’s bills are five proposed laws to bring public consultations and transparency to foreign takeovers. Gravelle brings his 34 years of work as a machinist at Inco (now Vale) to his MP work.
