Executive director of Progress Place and co-chair of Clubhouse Canada Coalition.

Criss is the executive director of Progress Place, a leader and service provider in the field of mental health and addiction with years of experience and knowledge working in administration, management, program and community development. She has worked with mental health stakeholders across Canada through the development of Clubhouse Canada, a Coalition of Clubhouses across the country. Criss has worked with cross-sectoral stakeholders to develop a Senior Mental Health Day Program in St. James Town and a Health Access Hub in Weston Mount Dennis.

Progress Place is a community based mental health recovery centre. Our vision is that all people living with mental illness have the opportunity for full recovery. Progress Place is dedicated to improving the lives of people living with mental illness. We offer programs and services, which provide opportunities for recovery through friendship, employment, education, housing and recreation in a welcoming and accessible environment of support, respect and dignity.

Community Recovery Centres Are Vital for Supporting Mental Health

Mental illness is not a priority on the political agenda even with an election on the horizon. We need to get Canadian citizens motivated and ready to speak out so that more funding can be injected into a system that has been weakened by its lack of funding due to frozen base budgets in the community mental health and addictions sector for over three years.
