Dean Herd has conducted research on poverty, social assistance and welfare reform in the UK, US and Canada for almost 20 years. The author of numerous academic articles, book chapters and policy reports, his work has been published in the Journal of Social Policy, the Journal of Social Policy and Administration, the Journal of Progressive Human Services and Studies in Political Economy, among others.
Fearing they will act in a way that is humiliating or embarrassing, people facing social anxiety disorders pass through life feeling extremely uncomfortable in social settings. Rather than endure the extreme discomfort which results, they expend great energy trying to avoid anxiety-provoking situations.
