Dominique Riviere is a qualitative researcher interested in urban issues, equity, and social justice. She is also a member of the steering committee for Community Recreation for All.
It's not that I think the achievements of historical Black Canadians are unimportant. It's just that, at this moment, I'd rather focus my energies on current struggles for liberation. That I am able to make this choice precisely because of those historical struggles is not lost on me. Indeed, it's kind of the point.
Community Recreation for All is a small group of activists, organizers and community advocates. While we don't have the capacity to do a needs assessment for community recreation across the city, we know that Parks, Forestry and Recreation is preparing to unveil its five-year service plan. As such, we want to provide a glimpse into your dreams for our community spaces. Our hope is to start a city-wide conversation. And to inspire action.
