Recently, Ottawa announced it was going to cut a program that provides temporary health coverage and medication to refugees. Canadian research has demonstrated that refugees are more likely to experience emotional problems and high stress levels, as well as greater mental health risks and rates of mental illness, than non-refugee newcomers.

Dr. Zahn is President and Chief Executive Officer of the Centre for Addiction and Mental Health. An honours graduate of the Faculty of Medicine at the University of Toronto, she is a Fellow of the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada (Neurology) and a Professor in the UofT Faculty of Medicine. Dr. Zahn is internationally recognized for her contributions to neurologic education and to standards of practice in neurology. She is a champion for the integration of psychiatry and neuroscience, and for steering mental illness and addictions into the mainstream of medicine and the public spotlight.
