I knew Donald Trump would win because his victory accompanied a feeling that was familiar to my body. It was the same feeling I get when a patient shares or comes to me with a devastating diagnosis. They don't know how this could have happened to them. Cancer? "This cannot be happening to me."

It had been a while since I had gone for such a long run. I love exercise, sports and movement, but the reality was, running felt more like an act of discipline than one of enjoyment. All of that changed when I discovered Pokémon GO.

Don't listen to Warren Buffet. Well, maybe consider his wealth management strategies, but please, for the love of your long-term health, ignore anything this man has to say about your diet.

What fascinates me as a clinician is the emergence of new, and dare I say, fun tools, to combat a traditionally difficult and solitary set of symptoms. While cognitive behavioural therapy and other forms of mental health interventions are important clinical considerations, so too is the potential role of games

While easily perceived as simply naïve, my tempered concern related to Malaria and Chikungunya were contextualized to a more pressing fear, much closer to home; Lyme disease. It is debilitating, it is poorly diagnosed and it is endemic in Ontario

This cleanse is really the easiest thing I have ever done. I chose to do it while I was on vacation with my family, but it is equally amenable to a cooler, snowier climate. It helped me shed pounds, increase my focus and re-invigorate my passion for career and family. Do you want in?

Medicine is evolving. The lack of sustainability associated with resuscitation is driving a demand for healthcare that leverages technology to assist in communication, compliance and curation of lifestyle options to prevent and reverse chronic disease.

Goodbye pencils, paper and penny-loafers, back to school has taken on a whole new meaning. Get back to your healthy habits and renewed focus with some well-deserved supplies and a few options to help make it a little easier on your body to chase down the bus. Funny isn't it, how some things never change.

Sun exposure is no joke. It is not to be taken lightly. Tanning salons and oils irk me with the same intensity as marketing fast food to children. Since 1970, the incidence of Melanoma has nearly tripled, while most other cancers are in retreat. Here is a breakdown of what you should know.

Financial stress has been identified on the intake forms of nearly 80 per cent of my naturopathy clients, most of whom are women. For a significant portion of these individuals, it is not that they don't have adequate earnings; it is usually that their money is not managed in a manner that supports their lifestyle or long-term goals.

Even the busiest of the multiple ball balancers find a way to move. Ride your bike to work, walk during your lunch hour or sit on a stability ball at your desk. Anything is better than nothing. You are designed to move. It will increase mental clarity, stimulate your immune system and make you a friendlier person.

If you are a victim of workplace bullying, you need to read the wisdom of Seth Godin, outlined: The way to work with a bully is to take the ball and go home. First time, every time. When there's no ball, there's no game. Bullies hate that. So they'll either behave so they can play with you or they'll go bully someone else.

We wouldn't ignore our car's gas light for days or weeks at a time. In the very least, we wouldn't be surprised if our ignorance of the warning light resulted in our car being side-lined because we had run out of fuel. So why do we treat our most precious asset, our health, with the disregard afforded to that old clunker, hand-me-down car.

What I learned as I stared down at that scale was the lesson, the empowerment and the health legacy I had been searching for without even recognizing the significance as it unfolded around me. I wasn't running, stretching and eating healthy food because it would result in a particular weight, I was pushing myself to set an example.

It was my choice to go back to work six weeks after having my second child and I won't lie, this week was tough. That being said, I awoke each morning delighted to start the day, hit the ground running and engage in my life's work. I figure if nothing else, being excited to head to work is an important metric in my quest to design a tailored life.

There is nothing on the outside that would suggest that otherwise normal, busy mothers secretly experience LBL or light bladder leakage. Although not the case for everyone, these symptoms commonly arise following the birth of a baby. Even more commonly, women manage the symptoms in silence.

If there is one thing we know for sure about day care, it is that it is crawling in germs of great density and diversity. Despite the new flowers and warmer weather, the germs and colds appear to be providing one final hurrah as we usher spring through the door. Here's how to boost your child's immune system.

As a naturopathic doctor, spring also coincides with a series of visits and questions related to spring cleanses, detoxification and lifestyle transformation. On Earth Day, it seems appropriate to review the most impactful changes we can make as part of our spring cleansing.

What do menstrual cramps, hot flashes, one bowel movement every three days and heartburn have in common? They are all symptoms we would classify as common, but none of them are normal. Taking control of one's health means eating well, exercising and sleeping sufficiently -- but also listening to your body.

I don't know conclusively whether you will live longer because you chose to exercise, eat well or manage your stress in an effective manner. I am certain of one thing however, healthy lifestyle choices are likely to leave your cup in a stronger position to handle the unexpected stressors and well-placed indulgences that we all tend to scoop up along the way.
