Conservative MP, Selkirk-Interlake
James Bezan is the Conservative MP for Selkirk-Interlake. Raised raised on a farm near Inglis, Man., he was first elected to the House of Commons in 2004. In 2008, Mr. Bezan received one of Ukraine's highest awards for his private member's bill that recognized the Soviet-imposed Holodomor forced famine of 1932-1933 as an act of genocide against the Ukrainian people. Mr. Bezan is current the Parliamentary Secretary to the Minister of Defence.
Yesterday, it was announced that I was to be included on the list of people receiving sanctions from the Russian Federation, in response to our government's sanctions on Russia for invading Crimea. This announcement was not a surprise since I have always been an outspoken advocate for Ukraine. I am very proud of my Ukrainian heritage, and to be included on this Russian list of Canadians is a badge of honour. I am honoured to be included with these distinguished Canadians who oppose the invasion of Crimea by Russian forces. I had no plans on traveling to Russia or doing business with Russian oligarchs.
