Are You Having Your Own Misogynist

Are You Having Your Own Misogynist Moment?

Why do we laugh at a comedian's misogynist joke? Why do we vote for a man who brags about grabbing women by their genitalia? Why would we try to seduce a man who abused us? I don't know whether it's a fear of being disliked or an inferiority complex or a survival instinct or a tainted childhood or a history of women who speak up for themselves being trashed (Trump's relentless "she's a fat, ugly lesbian" attack on Rosie O'Donnell always comes to mind), trying to put an end to misogyny is not for the faint of heart.

Fear Not Moms, Sexy Selfies Won't Wreck Your Kids

There are an abundance of examples of poor parenting out there, and I didn't know that showing off your curves was one of them. So I thought nothing of posting a photo of myself on Facebook in a fitted dress. I was surprised when someone criticized me for posing like a sexy mermaid when I know good and well I'm a mom.

Moms And Dads, Teach Consent Along With The Birds and Bees

I know this makes you uncomfortable to talk about. I sure don't want to hear it, either. But I need to. You're the people I trust most, and my first line of defence against regrettable or unwanted sexual encounters. Don't limit the sex talk to periods and how babies are made. Tell me EVERYTHING!

Sustainable Habits To Help You Find Energy And Purpose In 2016

By the time we're in our thirties we've subconsciously conditioned ourselves to have automatic responses to stress: "I'm too tired," "I can't help myself," or "things never work out for me." These myths can lower the bar and prolong a rut you may find yourself in, making meh the new normal.

Yeah, I'm 40, and Proud of

Yeah, I'm 40, and Proud of it!

I'm coming out of the closet -- the age closet. As a performer, apparently my prospects go down at 40. But what's great about 40? 40 years worth of friends, 40 years worth of life lessons, 40 years of honing skills! In fact, any major obstacles I've faced in life have given me strength or insight I wouldn't have had otherwise.

How to Be a Mom -- And Enjoy

How to Be a Mom -- And Enjoy It

One day I realized no one in my family was benefiting from my hectic race for perfection. And would I even be healthy enough to enjoy my kids' future considering I was anemic, sleep-deprived, out of shape, and kept alive by fast food and diet soda? Here are things that helped me slow down and enjoy motherhood.

Seven Ways to Enjoy Your Children

Seven Ways to Enjoy Your Children More

My kids are extremely outgoing and love initiating new activities. I, on the other hand, have a shorter attention span since becoming a mom. Below is a list of seven things the hubby and I initiated that have turned our "please, for the love of Jebediah, chill out!!!" attitude into genuine laughter and a [slightly] more relaxed atmosphere.

Why I Didn't Meet

Why I Didn't Meet Oprah

I was standing six feet away, feeling pressure to get the bragging rights of having met one of the greatest icons of womankind. I stared for about a minute, mulling it over. Should I jump her? Meekly present myself? Ask someone backstage to snap a photo?

The Loot Bag

The Loot Bag Boycott

I've been to Africa. I've hung out with kids whose only possession is a ball made of leaves. And guess what -- they were grateful for it. I'll be keeping this in mind when I forgo loot bags at my son's upcoming birthday, and donate the money saved to filling up some bellies.

All Moms

All Moms Lie

"My baby was sleeping through the night at six months." (Her baby slept through the night once at eight months, then didn't do it again for another year.) What possible reason would a mom have for lying like this? I decided to ask an expert: myself.

When Moms Make

When Moms Make Whoopee

Although the relationship my husband and I have with our kids is close to perfect, our "us time" has slid down the chain of importance. Somewhere between "shave bikini line" and "buy new socks," is "make time for relationship."

Kids Are Not

Kids Are Not Bananas

For years, I thought my kids were like bananas -- one emotional bruise and the whole thing's ruined. Until finally, a snow boot was thrown at my head one time too many, and everything but the F-bomb came shooting out of my mouth "I can't stand it! You're driving me crazy!!!"
