It is an enormous and important achievement that we are openly discussing mental health and its costs to the economy but what if the investments we are making are not enough because they are based on yesterday's economy rather than the economy of the future? Today's economy is very different from the one that existed 50 years ago.
Jodi L.H. Butts is the Executive Director of Rise Asset Development, a charity that provides small business loans, training and mentorship to entrepreneurs with a history of mental health or addictions challenges who cannot access traditional financing. Rise is a joint initiative of the Rotman School of Management at the University of Toronto and the Centre for Addiction and Mental Health.
