Health and Fitness Expert - Workplace Wellness Specialist
People forgot how to have fun. My mission is to make this Nation healthier One Fit City at a time. Add a little fun to functional training, and introduce regular people to sport specific training and we have a recipe for success. Done smart, and over time, we can turn this nation into aspiring athletes(or at least healthier arm chair quarterbacks). A degree in Kinesology and Applied Health and work with everything from Couch Potatoes Pro Athletes over the past decade is my key to battling Obesity and Inactivity.
What I need people to do is change their corporate culture, and the conversation they have with friends. You don't need to lose weight, you need to become fit. Starvation and exercise to the point of becoming unhealthy will drop weight fast. Increasing your heart rate, eating smart and local, and ensuring you breath deep through your day will take your body back to health.
You made a promise to live healthy. It's now August and you really didn't hit that promise out of the park. The summer living is over, and you have promised yourself to enjoy these last few weeks, then get back to healthy living. Here's what you need to do to make sure your healthy living goals stick this time.

Let's talk how to get the weight off and how to get the body you want. This is not usually the way my articles go as I want

I can not begin to describe my excitement for the onslaught of people who are putting together things like Tough Mudders, Mud Runs, and anything else that has people outside, running and performing obstacles. This is what we were designed to do. Have fun, be outside, and get messy.

To make a workplace healthy people need to actually commit. It needs to be a learning environment and it needs to be a place where employees can ask questions about health and get solid information. The goal is to get workplaces thinking healthy. To do that I want you to take your home to work.

Our bodies are designed to move in order to keep us alive and cover our basic needs for survival. Food, shelter, clothing, and warmth. All of those things used to require you to move, and be active. So imagine why it's so difficult to burn enough calories in 30 minutes three times a week in order to stay healthy.

This is what I encounter on a regular basis: I go in to a workplace to spread health and fitness, and get to meet people that are putting their life on hold Monday to Friday. I meet people that are extremely bitter. The reason is that they know they aren't doing the important things. They feel trapped.

Go run, walk, bike, or hike. It doesn't matter, just don't spend your life in front of a TV. You miss the most amazing thing, and that's your body doing what it's designed to do. Move and make memories. If you are parents with kids, encourage them to move and stay young. It's when we stop moving that we age fast, lose creativity and the confidence that we are in control of our destiny.

Trust me when I say you should follow this list. Being healthy and going out and enjoying life is for more fun, then dieting and training just to look good. No one really cares about your six pack. Never once have I been asked to tell a story about my abs. I have been asked about my trip to Thailand with Contiki tours a million times.

You might be wondering, "how do I eat clean on a "vacation." When planning a road trip here's what I think. Do all the small things right, and then remember that you are on vacation and you need to cut lose every once in a while.

An "after" photo implies the journey is finished. But health as a journey is never over, it's what you do daily. It's something to be worked on and focused on because it is your life and how you enjoy it. It's what you do DURING the journey that's the key to your success.

Healthy should be the goal. As a nation, we are caught up in a thought process and mission to get skinny, or muscular. We lost sight of healthy. We should care more about feeling healthy and being stress-free, than about how we look. Here is how to make the paradigm shift from losing weight to staying healthy.

Men, I want to encourage you to do Yoga. I'm still not into a lot of it. You'll probably never see or hear me talk about the deep spiritual side. But I take my deep breaths, I reflect inward, I calm myself after a long day. I do the things that reduce stress. I also find that I take the breathing and reflection time along with me on my running and into the weight room.

In the case of our youth, we need to go back to school and re-teach movement to those who are lagging behind. Many kids struggle in math, science, or with reading. Those kids have tutors, so why is motor development any different?

Clean out your cupboards. Simple sugars, and salty high fat snacks will be what you grab if you get hungry. Your body knows what it wants to survive, and it gives you a powerful craving to grab it. If it's not there, you will grab the next best thing. That next best thing from a survival standpoint is usually vegetables, yogurt, and the healthy choices.

I tried something new. It's called Joga. Jana Webb came up with an athletic style of yoga to get people moving. If you caught her on CBC with "Steven and Chris" you'd have seen her use Joga to improve your sex life. More motivation to get fit.

If everyone took care of those pillars of health, it would take less than 2 and half hours a day to change. A few more minutes to eat and grab health meals. That extra hour of sleep instead of TV, and 40 minutes to make your body and mind switch into a new gear to be ready to interact with friends and family.

April is in full swing. January 1 is a distant memory. The year you promised will be devoted to health is disappearing. Have you done what you promised yourself you would? If you are looking to get healthy, create the environment.

Try some new things, and if you are in the gym a lot. Use these videos as inspiration. Learn to become functional. Jump higher, and do chin ups. Trust me, both things make you feel athletic. It makes the gym not just about showing up, but about accomplishments. Find a place where you fit the environment.

Is your health important to you? Don't answer any other question, and don't think about anything else. Very simple: is your health important? Now make a list of every excuse you have to: Not eat healthy; Not be active everyday (simple walk at the end of the day); Not get enough sleep; Not reduce stress. Actually make the list, then look it over.
