Health and Fitness Expert - Workplace Wellness Specialist
People forgot how to have fun. My mission is to make this Nation healthier One Fit City at a time. Add a little fun to functional training, and introduce regular people to sport specific training and we have a recipe for success. Done smart, and over time, we can turn this nation into aspiring athletes(or at least healthier arm chair quarterbacks). A degree in Kinesology and Applied Health and work with everything from Couch Potatoes Pro Athletes over the past decade is my key to battling Obesity and Inactivity.
Somewhere along the way the lines got blurred. You are either in a hospital sick and dying, or you are a pro athlete and cover model. No one gives praise to the middle ground. No one talks about the family of five who are all healthy body weight, active but not stand outs on a sports team, and who eat healthy everyday.
Stop me if this sounds familiar. Wake up in the morning, late. Grab a coffee and a bagel (they're healthy, right?). Run out the door, get to work. Surprise meeting at 11:30, work through lunch. I have run out of gas in my life. If I didn't know the gas gauge was on E, and had you said a block before I ran out of gas I'd be dead at the side of the road, I'd never believe it. Our bodies are just like that. We ignore the problems, or don't feel them starting. One day we are golden then next we call an ambulance.

"I'd be happy if I lost 10 pounds." No greater lie has ever been spoken in the health world. I'm guilty of thinking it. I'm guilty of trying it. Happiness, and your reason for changing your diet, working out more, or doing anything health related can not be linked to weight loss. Not long term.

The workout is simple, it's total body, it will get the blood flowing and will give you the resistance you need to build muscle, and add bone density. It's a great workout, it's not the only one out there. Other trainers will have their two cents based on what they like to do.

There are so many ways and reasons to be active, finding motivation should be easy. The Heart and Stroke foundation is giving you one more. Don't have a heart attack. When you are deciding to skip out on physical fitness, think about not having a heart attack. It should motivate you to avoid the couch and do a little more to stay a little healthy.

So why have I not gone and committed to yoga before now? I was intimidated. My flexibility and balance are good, but when I tried yoga a few years back, I didn't excel. My head space was still overly competitive, and results based. I tell my clients all the time to do their best, and grow into fitness over time. I know it's what I should do, but it is far from what I do.
