I headed out to NYC to speak to the editor of Seventeen magazine about unrealistic photos of girls. So, Seventeen, I hope you understand what I'm saying. Photoshop hurts girls. We want to see pictures that look like us, in a magazine that's supposed to be for us.
Julia Bluhm, 14, is an 8th grader from Waterville, Maine. She has been involved in the Civil Rights Team for many years. She spends many hours a week dancing ballet. As a feminist, she not only wants to put a stop to sexualization and stereotypes of girls in the media, but also to negative stereotypes of ballet dancers. She is a member of the SPARKTeam, a project of www.sparksummit.com, a girl-fueled movement to demand an end to the sexualization of women and girls in media.
