During the wait, I had probably asked my coach, Toben, about five times what I should do about the speed. He shrugged, "You'll just have to feel this one, Kaya." Well, I felt it. The flow was there. I wasn't competing for anything or anyone but myself and instead of having the weight of the world on my shoulders, I was carrying everyone along for the ride.
Born and raised in Montreal, Canada, Kaya Turski is a self taught extreme skier who's now one of few athletes in Canada, and among few slopestyle skiers in the world, to be pre-qualified to compete at the upcoming Winter Olympics this coming February in Sochi, Russia when the sport makes its debut. Kaya, 25, has been competing in the sport for just over 7 years and has played a major role in the progression of slopestyle skiing, accumulating many titles throughout her career including 7 X-Games victories and 2013 World Champion. Just recently, as she was on her way to defending her top spot in the sport, she suffered a major knee injury, tearing her ACL ligament (for the third time) and is en route after surgery to getting back to her sport in order to make her dreams of representing Canada at the Games a reality. Follow her journey as she opens up to the world about getting through what might be the most challenging, and rewarding, rehab of her career. @KayaTurski on Twitter and Instagram, #TeamTurski
At the beginning of my rehabilitation process, I had to find various ways to comfort myself. If the knee was or wasn't going to get better in time for the Olympics, at least I would know it much sooner than later. It was so easy to get discouraged, to give up, to wonder why I would return to skiing after it took so much from me already. So I made myself focus on what mattered.

I'm Kaya. I travel the world throwing myself off big ski jumps, flying 75+ feet through the air doing different flips, spins and grabs at events like the X-Games. Just over four weeks ago while training on Mt Hood I experienced an ACL tear in my knee for the third time...
