Thinking in terms of attraction serves only to shield perpetrators and blame the victims.
"I'm taken" is perfect for shutting down unwanted male attention, and that's a problem.

As a victim, as a woman who was not believed, as someone who has had to live with the trauma of being abused for the better part of a decade, I really feel for Camille Cosby right now. What horror would she have to face in admitting that 59 women can't be wrong?

By deeming what is normal to be inappropriate, we turning women's bodies into a real thing of horror. I am praying that there was not a single person on that plane who would have mentally drawn a connection between a ten year old in leggings to a sexual object. But isn't the thought that the conclusion could be drawn part of the problem?

All of a sudden, it was OK for America to get back into hate crimes again. Behaviour that had been previously seen as scary stories from a discarded history text book are suddenly back in the news. Here we are, a long history of "haven't we become so much better" wiped clean with story after story of bigotry, Islamophobia, and Neo-Nazi ideals rising from the ashes.

I know that being the president of the United States has been hard for you. Although you gave it your best shot, not everyone is happy with what you've done in the past eight years. But despite this, there are some people who still think that you're pretty neat. I'm one of them. And I'm not the only one who is really going to miss you.

Teal Swan was only six years old when she found herself in the hands of her abuser and forced into a nightmarish world that a lot of people were unwilling (or unable) to believe. For the better part of 13 years, she was was raped, beaten and psychologically tortured by people who she was told to trust.

There's a sound in those old vinyls that we don't really get in other music forms, an old-school, comforting flavour that takes the listener back to a better, simpler time. That's where the band Melted Vinyl drew its first inspiration.

Everyone is struggling and the cure isn't going to come from a Google suggestion. The conversations we are having now are important, especially when talking to teens about Internet use. For the teens that struggle with mental illness, however, this conversation is potentially life saving.

Despite retaining my "anti social in style" persona, I've been interrupted more times than I can count by men telling me to take off my headphones so that they can talk to me. There have been times when they have literally jumped in front of me and blocked my path so that we could just "have a conversation" (and it's always the same one). The whole interaction is not just annoying; it often borders on invasive.

There are a lot of really awful things happening in the world right now. Fear, though an important mechanism for survival, is also something that can stop you from having a real human experience. There ARE good people in this world. You just have to be open to them. As strange as it may sound to you, a professional cuddler specializes in this kind of thing.

In the days following a heart-breaking letter from the victim, Brock Turner, promising frat boy, now rapist, has had the public in an uproar over the disgustingly light sentence he received. It was bad enough that a judge was more worried about the life of a rapist than he was about the life of a victim, but Turner's father, Dan, made the world even more sick to their stomachs. In a statement to the court, Mr. Turner said that Brock would, "Never be his happy go lucky self with that easy going personality and welcoming smile," and that a heavy punishment would not match his son's "20 minutes of action."

We see celebrities who we admire as "friends". We support their work, we cheer them on, and we ardently defend them when someone makes an accusation against them. In the eyes of millions of people, Johnny Depp is a hero, an onscreen buddy, and who wants to believe that your best film buddy abused his wife?

This was one of the first times when I fully disagreed with our prime minister's initial actions, but the quick and stormy actions of the Conservatives and NDP turned a reasonable concern into a farce. It's the overly polite, overly politically correct narrative that turns Canada into one giant joke for the rest of the world. This time, I was laughing with them.

America was so preoccupied with fear that it made the entire world afraid. We were all so terrified of each other that our silent killer slipped into our homes without protest. They say that there were some people who tried to warn us... but we didn't listen, and we paid the price.

This is the first time I have ever spoken publicly about what happened to me. It wasn't the first time I'd had an experience like this, but I pray to God that it was the last. I have been through countless hours of therapy and am now in a very healthy relationship with the greatest human being anyone could have the pleasure of knowing, and for that, I consider myself to be very lucky. Even though I felt better, I stayed silent, but the reason why I kept my silence for so long is not because it didn't happen. I kept my silence because of what happened during the Jian Ghomeshi trial.

The turn towards targeting certain political figures is concerning. Despite Trump's vomit-inducing charades, the truth remains that as an American citizen, he DOES have the right to say what he chooses. Although some of what he says could fall under the category of "hate speech", we keep forgetting that there is a very simple solution to our Trump dilemma: stop voting for him. Really, isn't it the public's fault that he's still there?

It's no secret that the Academy Awards does not favour diversity. Through the decades, we have seen countless white faces at the podium. In the 88 years that the Oscars have been given out, we have seen only a handful of performers with different racial backgrounds.

It finally happened. After months of accusations from over 50 women with horrific tales of sexual assault, Bill Cosby's luck has run out. On December 30th, 2015, Cosby stood before a judge, faced charges of indecent assault, and paid more money in bail than most people see in their lifetimes. If convicted, Cosby could face a mere $25,000 fine and ten years in prison. These are charges from only ONE of the women, Andrea Constand, who says she became friends with Cosby when she worked at Temple University.

Never mind that Trudeau has already attracted admiration from several world leaders, improved foreign relations and made good with his promise to aid Syrian refugees,. Never mind that he's only been Prime Minister for less than two months and has been actively working for the change that he promised. No, no, let's talk about how he and his wife hired a NANNY.
