'Nannygate' Is Not A Real Issue

Never mind that Trudeau has already attracted admiration from several world leaders, improved foreign relations and made good with his promise to aid Syrian refugees,. Never mind that he's only been Prime Minister for less than two months and has been actively working for the change that he promised. No, no, let's talk about how he and his wife hired a NANNY.

Can Social Media Be Considered A Safe Place To Talk About Rape?

When we talk about something that not everyone wants to hear, there is going to be backlash as much as there will be support. There are no guarantees that the internet is a safe place to talk about anything, let alone rape. But that does not mean that we should stop talking.

A Gender Balanced Cabinet Should Be Nothing

A Gender Balanced Cabinet Should Be Nothing Special

To some people, this may not be particularly mind-boggling. Women have moved up a lot in the world in terms of social, economic, and political influence. It wasn't so long ago that women were expected to adhere to the barefoot and pregnant "laws" that were governed by the patriarchal political climate. But here we are, 2015, and cheering wildly because we have more women in government. Apologies for raining on the parade, but I have to question this. In a truly gender equal society, we would all look at this cabinet and say, "Huh."

Why Objectifying Justin Trudeau Is Not OK

Justin Trudeau is indisputable in the hotness category and the world is paying attention. For the first time ever, Americans are taking to Twitter to submit their approval for our elected representative. People from all over the world are writing articles and verily salivating over the super-fine man in power. At first, I didn't see a problem with this. But you do, don't you?

This Is My Problem With (Some) Modern Feminists

Chanty Binx' impassioned rant outside the MRA lecture displays everything wrong with modern feminism. It's the childish temper tantrums, the causeless wildfire, the name-calling and the abusive labeling that is frequently attributed to the feminist name. Binx' rant displays the most depressing aspect to the discrediting of the feminist cause: they are no better than the patriarchy that they aim to take down.

White Privilege Needs to Own Up to Its Existence

Despite the importance of Viola Davis' impassioned speech, General Hospital actress Nancy Lee Grahn created a tizzy over Twitter, firing back on Davis' speech by saying, "Im a f--king actress for 40 yrs. None of us get respect or opportunity we deserve. Emmys not venue 4 racial opportunity. ALL women belittled." And so the epitome of white privilege reared its ugly head.

Jim Bob and Michelle Duggar Are Possibly the Worst Parents in America

I am not by any means condoning Josh Duggar's behaviour. His actions have been reprehensible. What I am doing is pointing out an all too familiar calling card that has been handed out time and time again by the same backwards religious fanatics that America calls its own. Jim Bob and Michelle Duggar have failed utterly as parents by refraining from doing one thing: protecting their children.

Let's Talk About the Modern Alpha

Let's Talk About the Modern Alpha Male

The Internet is full of wannabe Neolithic men. You can see their comments on Twitter, Reddit, and every Internet dating website ever. They say that they always tried to be the nice guy, but women didn't want to have sex with them, so now they're going to take back their power. They're going to be alpha males now, seducing women and leaving them in their tracks so that they can finally be validated.

This Is What you Really Get When You Marry

This Is What you Really Get When You Marry Someone

The media likes us to think that the perfect body, both male and female, is what we want to hold forever, but I'd like to disagree. I'd like to watch time take its toll and hear the words "I love you" with the same sincerity that was spoken when I was once young and beautiful. There is something in this that means so much more than the superficial joy of having someone frozen in perfection.

An Open Letter to Pick Up Artist, Roosh V

Dear Roosh V, I'd like to start a dialogue with you, if I may. I find you to be very interesting. As I was watching your videos and reading your material, I kept asking myself what has to happen to a person in their life to become someone like you. You must have been through a lot of awful things in order to see other human beings the way you do.

The Danger of Pornography Is That We Don't See the Women as People

Christie Mack, a retired porn actress was beaten by her ex, MMA fighter Jon Koppenhaver. Yet staggering amounts of people seemed to believe that Mack didn't deserve sympathy because she's a porn star, and was therefore asking for it. It's very sad that the perception of a woman being a "slut who deserves what she gets" doesn't turn off in the moment that the pornographic video ends. Despite the "real feel" elements of the film making, the porn industry is just like every other film industry -- every movie is ONLY a movie.

What #Meninism Gets Completely Wrong

The heart of #meninism might be valid, but it doesn't remotely reflect the kind of struggle that women throughout the ages have gone through. Let's work a little less on spitting on the real issues and work more on making sure that we're making the changes necessary to ensure that we never have the meninist/feminist conversation again.

I Finally 'Get' Dating After Turning 30

I have a secret weapon now. I have 30. It may have had a bad wrap in the past, but 30 has equipped me with the wisdom to spot these men from a mile away and tune them out. Another person's bad behaviour is never my fault and 30 has taught me that, preparing me to live like the glorious woman that I am.

Dalhousie Dentistry Forgot About the Dangers of Social Media

Though I am about as much of a dentist as I am a squirrel, the Dalhousie Dentistry scandal cannot be ignored, even by a humble B.F.A, such as myself. Of course, I was outraged by the misogynistic nature of a Facebook page that was created for the express purpose of debasing women within the dentistry program. However, the first thought that ran through my mind wasn't outrage over their sexist remarks.

4Chan Can't Drag Gender Equality Back to the Stone Age

Saying that nude photos of Emma Watson will destroy her credibility as a feminist is like saying that Communism can be stopped if you only choose not to share any of your things with other people. Resistance is futile. The more you push for the world to stay the same, the faster it throws you a curve ball. Shape up, or ship out, sailors. Gender equality is not going to join you in the Neolithic period. So the next time you take to the internet to express your hilarious opinions, consider reading a book.

Why Does It Take Jennifer Lawrence's Nude Photo To Spark Outrage on Privacy Issues?

But a new battle is raging, and as pleased as I am to see so many people outraged by a young actress' right to sexual privacy being violated, I can't help but ask; why such an outcry for Jennifer Lawrence? It has always been disgusting to see so many young women, celebrity or no, be abused by the absurdity of non-consensual pornography, so why are we choosing to be outraged now? Shouldn't we have brought this up a long time ago?

The Purpose of

The Purpose of Feminism

The remedy for all ignorance is simple; compassion and education. If you come across a 21st century "alpha" male basking in North American blindness, be kind. They are less-educated in the ways of human behavior, and perhaps it is best to leave them to it. Pick up the torch, speak up, and educate those who are willing to listen. Your voice has power. Never let go of the truth in equal rights.

Many Things in Life Are Grey, But Rape Is Black and White

If a woman says "no" to you, you are a rapist. If at any point during sexual contact she says "no," you are a rapist. If the woman expresses a desire for you to stop in any way, including words such as "this is not OK," you are a rapist. If the woman is too far under the influence to verbally give consent to a sexual act, you are a rapist. There is no colour in these rules. These are the black and the white.

Why We Should Stop Calling People "Crazy"

Out of all of the terms to be re-addressed in light of recent mental health awareness, "crazy" should be the first to go. It has become verbal leprosy, a warning to all of those who witness it for fear of spreading its sickness. A crazy girl or boy is to be avoided at all cost.
