What will you risk to get ahead? We live in culture that applauds overworking. Commonly heard complaints, such as "I am killing myself at work" usually get met with a pat on the back rather than a look of concern. Although, it's rare that even extreme cases of overworking lead to death, it's not unheard of. And this mentality isn't going anywhere. Any change in corporate culture will not take place overnight, especially in environments where excessive hours are a long-held tradition.

Here's a secret. I like to work holidays, even weekends. I'm not proud, or even boastful. Logically, I know that any work expands to fill the amount of time allotted to it but I can't help myself and honestly, vacations are not something I find comfortable. I'm not alone. Perhaps our concept of vacation time merely needs to be revisited. If completely unplugging for a week -- or heaven forbid two -- feels too drastic, then maybe a new definition of holiday is required.

These were the key findings of The Gap in the Gender Gap: Violence Against Women in Canada report released by the Canadian Centre for Policy Alternatives, released on Thursday. The economic losses for these crimes come in the form of costs to the justice system, costs to the victim, and costs to third parties.
