I love farmer's markets. I love the atmosphere they create; all the produce and hand-made goods lined up on tables in wooded or cardboard baskets. Everyone attending can take in what real food looks, feels, and smells like (from our own backyards!). It reminds me of a simpler time when it was expected of us to grow and create the things we need for our daily lives.

Though you have been conditioned to think otherwise, there are many ways to get protein without turning to meat! Many people think that just because I am vegetarian that I am not getting enough protein. In fact, I am actually getting better quality protein than I ever did eating animal-based foods.

I know you may be thinking, isn't just drinking juice in general better than no juice at all? Well, there is something to be said about that, as it's better than what most people are drinking daily (soda, sugared coffees and pasteurized juice). However if you are making the effort to enhance your health, then you may as well go the full length and do it right!

Have you been misled by corporations marketing their food products? Most of us have. And we now mistakenly rely on food labels for an accurate picture of the nutritional value of the foods that we consume. If you want to achieve an overall healthier lifestyle, say goodbye to the following misleading terms...

Superfoods are a category of foods found in nature; they are superior sources of essential, super-power nutrients -- nutrients we can't make ourselves. They are the most powerful foods on the planet, and are powerhouses for the transformation to a slender, healthier you. If you are what you eat, why not be super?

Nothing says comfort food like millet. As the evenings get chillier, it's a wonderful, warming food to tuck into and is one of the most unique and wholesome grains out there. Try adding the produce you already have sitting in your fridge, and create a delicious sauce to add protein, fibre, and chlorophyll to the mix. Here is what I put together, in less than an hour!

You all have heard it before and it still holds true: Breakfast is the most important meal of the day! A coffee and a slice of toast just doesn't cut it. It will not hold you over and you are likely to be hungry within the hour and that is when you will grab something else sweet and fulfilling... sound familiar?

With Christmas, New Year's Eve, and holiday parties fast approaching, we all need to make an extra effort to stay in control and not to overindulge. There is no reason to give your body desserts that have no nutritional value when you can benefit from every bite by making your own desserts with natural ingredients.

You want to make sure you have a little bit of everything so you are not left craving anything after the meal, or feel like something is missing from you plate. A whole plate full of mashed potatoes, a piece of bread and turkey is not very appetizing, colourful or creative!

My clients always ask me, "If there is one thing I can do to better my health, or one food item I can add in that is amazing for me... what is it?" My answer is always greens! For instance, kale is fantastic when it is just lightly steamed or sautéed -- they even make great "chips" (see recipe below).
