At present she is both writing and dipping her toe back in the acting world. She is delighted to be appearing as Martha, in the Blue Bridge production of Who’s Afraid of Virginia Woolf. At present she is working on yet another rewrite of her untitled adult manuscript. Her new middle grade manuscript, A Taste of Heaven, is out with various editors, looking for a home.

Her three children are grown, so she and her husband are now splitting their time between Vancouver Island and Toronto.

Almost Like Flying

Why do we stop running, spinning, jumping, singing out loud just for the joy of it? Why do we care if no one else is? Why should we care if people think we are bonkers? Just because we are grownups we are supposed to stop throwing our bodies on the ground and smelling the earth?

When Life Gives You Apples, Make Applesauce

I feel clever because I took something that an ordinary person would throw away, or eat and resent because the yellow/peach coloured apples were mealy. But as applesauce, those pathetic specimens are going to be so good that I might even lick the bowl, and because it's just me here, nobody will know the difference.

Bomb Girls

Mothers and Daughters: The Worst

Mothers and Daughters: The Worst Child?

I am the worst daughter in the family. I do send my mother flowers and loving thoughts, but not seeing her makes it easier to hold on to the good memories. It's not so easy when she believes that my husband is her soul mate, when she tries to turn me against my own children.

Mothers and Daughters: Picking Up the Phone

I had always wanted for my kids to call me because their heart wanted to, not because they felt they had to. I wanted to be a joy to them, not an unwanted obligation. But maybe they were feeling that I didn't care about them anymore? Was I being a bad mother?

I Asked My Daughter To Blog About Me. It Already Stings

I tried to give my daughter the childhood and the mother I longed for, having grown up in turbulent circumstances. But there were challenges. Otherwise I would not have gone through four major relationships, with three different father figures marching in and then out the door.

"Um... Mom, maybe it would look better if you wore a little makeup," my daughter Emily said. "I am," I replied. "Oh. Maybe you should use a bit more," she added.

If I can convince my daughter Emily to do a mother/daughter blog maybe it will make us close again. The way it used to be before things changed.
