Nitika (Nikki) Pant Pai, MD., MPH., PhD, is an Associate Professor at McGill University and McGill University Health Center in the Department of Medicine (Division of Infectious Diseases and Clinical Epidemiology) and a Research Scientist at the MUHC Research Institute, Montreal, Canada. She is a physician/public health professional/clinical epidemiologist by training. Her research vision is to develop innovative strategies with rapid point of care tests, so as to inform, and change policies in the country of research and internationally.

She has been a recipient of numerous research awards-- Grand Challenges Canada’s Stars in Global Health Award in 2011 and in 2013, McMaster University’s Chanchalani Award for Global Health Research in HIV, 2013, McGill University’s Maude Abbott Award for research excellence, 2013, along with CIHR New Investigator 2010 and FRSQ’s Chercheur boursier Junior 2 award, in 2015.
Her current focus is on evaluating HIV self testing strategy (HIVSMART! ) for in home, self-testing for HIV in Canada (funded by CIHR), and in South Africa (funded by GCC, RI MUHC and South African MRC and DST).

HIV Self-Testing Can Help End The AIDS Epidemic

December 1st is World AIDS Day. A diagnosis of HIV today is not a death sentence. There are good diagnostic tools, and effective antiretroviral treatments. Despite these tools, about 40 per cent of individuals living with HIV do not know that they are infected. This has to change.
