Mom, Stepmom, and Entrepreneur.
Sarah Paterson is a Toronto-based mom, stepmom and founder of socialstepmom.com. She and her husband have two daughters together under the age of four, and for the past six years Sarah has also been stepmom her husband’s five other children from two different moms – three girls and two boys ranging from 7 to 20 years old. Sarah was born and raised four hours north of Toronto in Sudbury, Ontario. A child of divorce when she was young, Sarah eventually inherited a blended family.
An eager and independent spirit, Sarah began computer programming at age 15, and started her own consulting business while still in high school. She then obtained her Information Technology Diploma and immediately set out to conquer Bay Street, landing her first job at Canada’s leading Technology Investment Bank. When the tech bubble burst, Sarah re-channeled her entrepreneurial spirit and launched a successful career in residential real estate sales, a business she continues to pursue part-time.
After years of experiencing the joys (and she promises there are some!) and the challenges associated with being a stepmom, she decided to launch Social Stepmom in April 2017 to share her experiences in the complex world of blended families. Sarah believes in the power of positivity and a collective voice, and sees Social Stepmom as a means to unite this massive fraternity to chime in and engage with thoughts, ideas, and wisdom and even, if appropriate, a safe place for get-it-off-your-chest complaints.
