Undergraduate Science Student, University of Alberta
I am in my fifth year of a Bachelor of Science degree, at the University of Alberta. I love photography, slam poetry and I am an avid musician.
A podcast about voicemails, the podcast that wants to give you the chance to go back and leave the message you wish you did
Although the friends, connections and lessons gained through SHAD stay with you long after the program, it's supposed to be one of those once-in-a-lifetime opportunities. I am one of the lucky few who got a second chance to experience it, albeit through a different perspective.

Making New Year's resolutions is completely out of the norm for me. I simply find them a ploy that people use to comfort themselves about a year that perhaps didn't go as well as they expected. Writing down specific goals for the coming year, personally only accomplishes making them feel like a list of chores that I put off completing

Unknown to him, when he first moved in to the place he now lives in was rumored to be haunted. His former roommate even attests to feeling the spirit of the young child at the bottom of their stairs.

I just graduated from high school and admittedly, I have never felt directly connected to the Calgary Board of Education or the choices they have made regarding students. Certainly, each school has a representative on the Chief Superintendent's Student Advisory Council and while the benefits of such a council can be seen, it is regardless, not difficult to lose the thoughts of the greater student population which includes more than 100 000 students in the Calgary Board of Education alone.

One of my earliest memories as a child was going to Prince's Island Park in Calgary every June to walk The World Partnership Walk. Back then, I looked forward to it because we made it a family affair. I would head down to the park with my family and it seemed that in exchange for walking a mere 8 kilometers or so, I would receive a delicious chili lunch, have a chance to part in some fun activities, get my face painted and even come away with a few prizes (it was all well worth the stickers).

Since its inception in January 2013, Facebook page Calgary Compliments has taken our city by storm. So what exactly is the purpose to a page like this? Unlike similar "confessions" pages which have been popping all over the interwebs, this compliments page is a civic outreach initiative to help Calgarians bond.

I have had the pleasure of seeing Calgary 2012 grow from even before its official inception.. As the project comes to a close in March of 2013, I took a moment to consider what my favourite event was. From the Sweet City Lip Dub to the Artist in Residence program, the projects implemented this year have all been unique. However, my absolute favourite event was Nuit Blanche.

When questioned upon the divide between the progressive conservative values from his time in office to the conservative values of today, I heard the "has become more right-of-centre" one too many times, paired with his opinion that the party has maintained similar ideologies, thought processes and policies.

There are several one-of-a-kind aspects integrated seamlessly into Trevor Deley's first EP. Robert is concept album, featuring the main theme of mental illness. The inspiration came from a young man named Robert who suffered from drug addiction/mental illness and was spending a great deal of time in the hospital when Trevor met him. The true beauty of this influence comes from the fact that although Robert was a statistic to most, he was a stranger who unknowingly had a real impact on a musician.

Every July, around 10 Canadian universities scattered across the country play host to 500 students from all provinces/territories and even internationally. Although the program is for open-minded high school students who are not afraid to delve into any subject and become challenged or inspired in ways they never thought possible in one month, I hope to break the stereotype that this is "nerd camp". My program consisted of 56 total Shads and we lived in residence at the university.

I captured a picture of these two beautiful creatures during a casual visit to the Calgary Zoo this summer. It caught my eye that they are almost forming a heart together.
