Eleven years after being diagnosed, I can say that diabetes has been the single best thing that has ever happened to my life. I would never give it back. Sport had been a vehicle, a growth opportunity. Diabetes has offered me the same and I am thankful for it.

Sebastien Sasseville was diagnosed with type 1 diabetes in 2002. In 2008, he became the first Canadian with type 1 diabetes to reach the summit of Mount Everest. Several years later Sebastien competed in the mythical Sahara Race in Egypt, a 250km self-supported ultra-marathon. <br> <br> From Mount Everest to the Sahara, Sebastien Sasseville had to reinvent himself to succeed. <br> Sebastien obtained a Communications degree from Laval University in Quebec City, and has dedicated his career to inspiring and motivating audiences of all kinds. A climber, endurance athlete and Ironman, Sebastien has delivered more than 100 keynotes addresses since 2005. He is now a member of Team Novo Nordisk, a global sports team comprised of cyclists, triathletes and runners who are living with diabetes.
