This April marks the 20th commemoration of the genocide in Rwanda -- where we both trace our roots. As we take time this month to remember the events of 1994, honour the lives lost, and reaffirm our commitment to never again stand by and let another genocide take place, a troubling situation is unfolding in Burundi that appears frighteningly reminiscent of Rwanda pre-1994.
Juno Award Winning Rapper
Born in Kenya to Rwandan parents and relocated to Canada shortly after, Shad (Shadrach Kabango) is a Polaris Music Prize nominated and Juno Award winning rapper. Shad's fourth full-length album Flying Colours is released on October 15, 2013.
We have been collaborating on finding ways to bridge the gap between the Indigenous and Non-Indigenous communities. One of the greatest ways we have found is hip-hop music and culture. If one takes the time to look, they would see that the Indigenous community and the hip-hop community both share a lot of the same experiences.
