Our home waters -- as the First Nations that share these lands are acutely aware -- face grave threats. The transportation of heavy bitumen from Alberta's oil sands through the Trans-Mountain pipeline presents serious risk; the pipeline crosses 98 streams and cuts across our drinking water aquifer.
Sheila is a community organizer based out of Chilliwack, B.C. She is presently working as campaign director with The WaterWealth Project, an initiative focused on protecting home waters through 100 per cent local control that respects indigenous rights and sovereignty and the right for local residents to say "yes" or "no" to projects that directly impact on their water wealth.
