After Aaron Driver, How Will We Confront Jihadi Ideology In Canada?

A fundamental question that often arises here is what's Islamist extremism? The roots of Islamist extremism stem out of the concept of armed Jihad, which endorses the idea of domination of Islam through armed struggle. The very same concept is being adopted by ISIL.

Eid Greetings Soaked With Bloodshed And Bombs

Today, Muslims around the world are celebrating Eid and sharing Eid greetings. But those greetings are not flying too far this time. They are heavily soaked with the weekend bombing in Iraq that caused more than 250 lives. Saudi Arabia got struck by three suicide attacks two days before Eid.

Census Stirs Urdu-Punjabi Languages Clash Within Pakistani Community

Apart from this legal debate, let's analyze the insecurities of Pakistani-Canadians in terms of not recognizing Punjabi as mother tongue of Punjabi Pakistani Canadians: First, they don't want to count themselves with Punjabi Sikhs and Hindus. Secondly, they declare Urdu as their Muslim language.

Rejecting Political Islam Can Help Counter ISIS' Ideology

Why aren't more Muslims living in the West actively speaking out against a series of terror acts inspired by Islamic State ideology? Are the press releases against such acts released by traditional Islamic centres enough to show our solidarity with our neighbours? These are the questions in my mind.

Don't Make My Religion an Election

Don't Make My Religion an Election Issue

Please don't portray the niqab issue as a Muslim issue. The vast majority of Canadian Muslims think that the traditional veil is clearly a mark of separation, and consider it an element of the fanatical side of Islam. A tiny percentage of stubborn members of Muslim community is causing unnecessary tension between the government and Muslim community on one hand, and between the Muslim community and society at large on the other.

Wearing a Niqab or a Veil Is Not a Requirement of Islam

We need to understand the difference between being separate and being moderate. There is also a need to understand that most Muslim women who don't wear these emblems are still followers of Islam. Canada's Citizenship and Immigration Minister Chris Alexander has tabled a bill called The Zero Tolerance for Barbaric Cultural Practices act in the parliament last month. However, some criticize the name of the bill and call it pretty loaded one. But violence against women is absolutely barbaric act. It must be addressed strongly.

Breaking Down Negative Muslim and Jewish Stereotypes

I can't understand why Muslims from Pakistan, India, Bangladesh, Somalia, Turkey, Iran, Malaysia and Indonesia etc., have to be against Israel and Jews over Israel's conflicts with Hamas, AlFatah and Hezbullah.
