There are a lot of myths surrounding the world of injury and rehabilitation and I want to set the record straight so you can get focused on getting better.
After being involved in mainstream fitness for many years, owners Taylor and Whitney Simon decided there needed to be a change and created Taylored Training Fitness. Mainstream box style gyms just weren't working; members were getting an impersonal experience, classes weren't effective and personal training was only accessible to an elite few. Taylored Training was created to completely change the way people experience fitness. Whitney and Taylor believe fitness should be fun, accessible, educational and above all life-changing. Together they created a community of members who enjoy coming to train and truly feel like they belong. Every time you train at Taylored Training members train with expert fitness coaches ready to answer questions, give advice, help with a motivational push, and most importantly ensure that training improves their day! Taylored Training members have no sessions to book, no timeline to fit into, and access to the best programming and coaching EVERY time they train. Aside from the training studio, Taylor and Whitney also created Taylored Training Physiotherapy; a results based physiotherapy practice. Both members and non-members work with a hands-on physiotherapist every session.
I want to discuss the importance of your fitness training and how you should approach your training to improve your pelvic health treatment, recovery and long-term results.

All those people in magazines, at competitions, and filling instagram with their awesome workout pics are the small percentage of the population who are intrinsically motivated. Who are able to suffer and sacrifice based on some internal psychology. What's important to note is that the majority of the world is not like this, maybe YOU are not like this AND THERE IS NOTHING WRONG WITH THAT!

There is large percentage of women who perform Kegels incorrectly, many of whom actually increase the pressure pushing down on the pelvic floor when they are attempting to do a Kegel leading to the exact opposite desired outcome -- a weakened, less functional pelvic floor.

Growing up, food was always a challenging subject in my house. My mother was hospitalized in her 20s with anorexia. As a result of this influence, my diet history - especially in my teenage years - included a variety of low-fat, low-calorie and fad diet plans.

So you've decided to search the Internet for an online coach. You're ready. You want to make a change and you realize you need help from a trusted expert. So what should you be looking for? How do you know if you're investing in the right person and product? And what research do you need to do before making your decision?

Eat 6 small meals a day. Eat carbs. Don't eat carbs. Eat Paleo. Eat Vegan. Each high protein. Yes. I 100% understand why

As a new pelvic health physiotherapist, I am eager to educate, communicate and change the way pelvic health issues are currently addressed. It is not until we openly talk about this important health issue, that change will start to happen.

The reason I want to talk about this today is because believe it or not our behaviours surrounding toileting can oftentimes lead to pelvic floor dysfunctions, including urinary and/or fecal incontinence, pelvic organ prolapse, pelvic pain, not to mention decreased muscular strength, endurance and coordination of the pelvic floor muscles.

Your feet are rarely the focus of any training program yet are the most important part of your body when it comes to your movement. Most people tend to wear shoes that are overly supportive and/or constrictive so the muscles in the feet become weak. There are 28 bones in your foot, twenty muscles and over thirty joints.

Many women who train experience this awkward and sometimes painful situation when it comes to performing plyometrics, jump rope training and/or running. As a coach my first priority is to always support my clients and over the years this has been an issue that I've realized needs to be addressed. It's time to talk about it and discuss a solution.

Crushing 20 calories a minute, kettlebell training is one of our favourite tools for fat loss, training muscular endurance and enhancing cardio capacity. As fitness coaches we know, your time matters! When you train it is so important to make sure your time at the gym is well spent.

Last week I took a sledgehammer to our scale at my fitness studio and smashed into tiny little pieces. Why? Because I hate it. I really, passionately hate it and I don't believe it is best practice for health and fitness professionals to use the scale with clients and patients. I just don't.

I have been in this industry for almost a decade and a half and have watched thousands of people go through the resolution process. I have seen abysmal failures and I have seen unbelievable successes. Here are the six key elements shared by those who beat the statistics and accomplish true, long term, change.

The entire fitness industry decides that the best thing we can do at this time of year is attempt to make your life miserable; by telling you how many stupid things you do, how you don't exercise enough, and how you don't have any willpower. We also tell you that any kind of life enjoyment will make you over fat and probably die.

So often in the fitness industry the message is extreme. Our industry is committed to improving people's lives but we forget in order to change lives we have to provide a community that is welcoming, educational and non-judgmental. The key is to start with small daily changes.

For some reason everyone thinks that it is OK for anyone to go running in an effort to improve their health. This is simply not an appropriate recommendation. Running is not the BEST form of exercise. It is simply a form of exercise and one that requires preliminary strength and mobility prior to starting.

You should feel tired by the end. You should be breathing hard and a sit down rest should seem like the best idea ever. You shouldn't have enough energy left to add another 15 minutes of exercise. Your clothes should need to be washed because they smell like a gym locker.
