Born and raised in the Greater Toronto area by her Jamaican born mother. Tianna is currently an Occasional Secondary School Teacher with the York Region District School Board. She is a recent graduate of the Ontario Institute of Studies in Education at the University of Toronto where she focused on Inner-City Education. She is also a graduate of York University where she studied History. Tianna is the recipient of various academic and leadership awards including the 2011 recipient of the Miyumi Sasaki Education Fund, which recognizes Social Justice and Equity in Education. Tianna enjoys reading,
socacizing, working out and quality time with friends and family.

How to Help Black Youth? Expect More of Them

Due to the recent surge in gun violence in Toronto there have been numerous discussions about how best to address this problem. I firmly believe that low and negative expectations are at the heart of what leads many black youth down paths that are lined with little more than underachievement, impoverishment and predatory violence.
