Apple iTunes Doesn't Sell Porn, And Neither Should Shaw

We can have freedom of speech and still have a family friendly society by realizing that freedom of speech never meant freedom of pictures that betray the goodness of women and children. We would not need government internet filtering, like is proposed now in England.

Corporate responsibility can go a long way to making our communities a better place to live. I understand it was Steve Jobs himself who made the corporate decision for Apple iTunes not to sell porn. He made the right decision for our communities and Apple should be praised. And it is part of Jobs' enduring legacy.

We can have freedom of speech and still have a family friendly society by realizing that freedom of speech never meant freedom of pictures that betray the goodness of women and children. We would not need government internet filtering, like is proposed now in England, if at least some internet providers would make by default their service a family safe zone, so that families with children can choose their service above the other crap. Speech is still free, it was the degrading pictures, that are culpable for much sexual abuse in our society, that were always stupid.

Premier Redford has just appointed MLA Sandra Jansen to be Associate Minister of Family and Community Safety to bring together best practices to protect kids from school yard bullying and cyber bullying.

Please lobby Shaw Cable to stop selling hard core pornography in the "Adult" section of Video On Demand right where kids shop for Disney movies. Encourage Shaw to be a great company like Apple iTunes, that has made their site a "Family Safe Zone" that refuses to sell pornography.

Also, let's invite retired Albertans to volunteer to be recess monitors and mentors to help curb school yard bullying. If they see any child left out, be their friend, and if they see any bullying going on, stop it.

Yours sincerely,

Bill Haines
