Could Your Sex Life Be Greener?

Taking a long, hot shower solo is bad for the environment, but taking a short, hot shower with a friend is green living at its best. Taking a hot bath with a friend is equally good, especially if you're using organic soaps and hair care products which you can follow up with an organic oil massage.

Sex is a great way to lose weight, reduce stress and lower your blood pressure. It can also be a great way to cut your carbon footprint which (inevitably) saves you some money. We know you love the planet, so here's how to really love the planet. Now, let's slip into something a little more sustainable.

Turn your lights down low

If you are already turning off the lights and relying on candles to show you in the best light, then good on you, you green living genius! Unfortunately, most candles are made from paraffin wax, so when you're burning candles, you're actually burning fossil fuels. What you really need is a beeswax or soy candle. Using candles means that your utility bill will be lower so turn off the TV, turn down the lights and, if you're feeling particularly athletic, turn down your thermostat too!

Eat yourself frisky!

Combining my two favorite things is a match made in heaven. If you aren't always in the mood, you can eat yourself frisky with natural aphrodisiacs. Let's start with chocolate... chocolate contains phenylethylamine (PEA) which is a stimulant that boosts mood and reduces stress which helps to put you in the mood. Other frisky foods are pumpkin seeds, ginger, oysters and celery. There's also some health store products that will help you get busy like ginseng, kelp, ginko biloba and (lest we forget), horny goat weed.

Organic personal products

Did you know that Americans spend $80 million a year on personal lubricants? Many of these contain some pretty nasty chemicals that are more suited to the auto industry. The ludicrously lucrative lube industry is unregulated and many of the most popular products have been shown to be toxic to both cervical and rectal cells. Opt for organic, non-toxic personal products that don't contain parabens or glycerin.

Sexy skivvies

When it comes to slipping into something sustainable, opt for organic cotton, sustainable bamboo, silk or soy or other sustainably-grown organic materials. Organic fabrics are kinder to the environment and breathe better. If you must lycra, then opt for undies that are made from recycled plastics so that your impact on the environment is minimized. Consider organic, natural fibers for your bed linen too.

Shower sharing is planet caring

Taking a long, hot shower solo is bad for the environment, but taking a short, hot shower with a friend is green living at its best. Taking a hot bath with a friend is equally good, especially if you're using organic soaps and hair care products which you can follow up with an organic oil massage.

Of course, for the ultimate green living sex, just head on outside and enjoy the bounties of nature, alfresco.
