New ‘If Beale Street Could Talk’ Trailer Is A Beautiful Look At Barry Jenkins' Latest Movie

The Oscar-winning director's first movie since "Moonlight," based on the James Baldwin classic, is already generating Oscar buzz.

Barry Jenkins’ first film since winning an Oscar in 2016, “If Beale Street Could Talk,” has a new trailer and a new promotional campaign after the film premiered to glittering reviews and Academy Award buzz at the Toronto International Film Festival earlier this month.

Judging from the new trailer released Thursday, the movie looks like it contains the same ravishing beauty and quiet intensity of his 2016 movie “Moonlight,” which won the Academy Award for Best Picture.

Based on a James Baldwin novel, “If Beale Street Could Talk” chronicles Tish and Fonny, a young black couple in 1970s Harlem. Tish discovers she is pregnant, but the couple becomes separated when Fonny goes to jail after being falsely accused of rape.

“Remember, love is what brought you here. And if you trusted love this far, don’t panic now — trust it all the way,” actress Regina King, whose performance as Tish’s mother has earned standout praise from critics, says in the trailer.

Along with the trailer, the film’s distributors on Thursday also released a new poster with the slogan, “trust love all the way.”

Jenkins first gave a glimpse of the film in a similarly stirring teaser trailer in August, which featured the words and voice of Baldwin himself.

“If Beale Street Could Talk” premieres in theaters on Nov. 30. Watch the trailer above.
