Jennifer Aniston Says 'Friends' Cast Didn't Really Like Their Theme Song

No one told us it was gonna be this way.

Jennifer Aniston was asked Monday what goes through her mind when she hears the theme song to “Friends,” the Rembrandts’ “I’ll Be There for You.” (You know, the one with all the clapping.)

It isn’t all warm, fuzzy memories.

“No one was really a big fan of that theme song,” Aniston told host Matt Baker on the BBC’s “The One Show,” where she was promoting her upcoming movie “Office Christmas Party.”

“I don’t mean to say that, but we felt it was a little, I don’t know. Dancin’ in a pond, or like, a fountain, felt a little odd,” she continued. “But we did it.”

Because they did, the opening credits showing all six friends hanging out on a couch and in a pond fountain have become a celebrated part of television history, reimagined by fans across the internet ― even if we can’t all agree on how much to clap. (The correct answer is four times.)

The good news is that the theme song has evidently grown on the actress over the years.
