Nope to "Fresh Starts"

They've done something stupid at work, home, school - somewhere. Even if it's only in their head, people want a "Fresh Start".

Welcome to the season of New Years. It is a time of reflection. It is also a time where thousands of people are looking for that "Fresh Start". They've done something stupid at work, home, school - somewhere. Even if it's only in their head, people want a "Fresh Start".

Here's the thing...

There is no such thing as a "Fresh Start"!

And really, who wants to hear "Happy New Years" much after the 1st?!?

We live with what we learn, what we do, and who we are. We live in a world that is obsessed with "Fresh Starts". On Fridays, we say that next week will be better. We graduate from high school or tech college or university to cheers that our life has now begun ... what happened to the previous years? Do they no longer count? I sure hope not.

Isn't it time we embrace the past as fantastic features instead of messes to forget? Honour your past, your friends, your family and total strangers who have contributed to your life of knowledge. We can read thousands of articles about how to appear younger and most of us wouldn't be caught dead reading some "Embrace Yourself" book from the self-improvement aisle.

Fortunately, the best way to "Embrace Yourself" is to get out and live life. Please suffer no more hours of navel gazing. The busiest people are capable of doing the most. So stop looking for a "Fresh Start". It's time to get up and out and live 2014 like it's 2014.

Happy New Years!
