The kids are all right.
For years now, there has been a theory about the “Rugrats” babies circulating on the Internet that says that all the characters from the ‘90s cartoon series are all dead and just figments of Angelica’s dark imagination. The theory extends from the childhood years into the “All Grown Up” spinoff, and ends with Angelica dying of a drug overdose, but the main gist is:
Chuckie died in 1986 along with his mother, that’s why Chaz is a nervous wreck all the time. Tommy was born in 1988, but he was a stillborn, that’s why Stu is constantly in the basement making toys for the son who never had a chance to live. The DeVilles had an abortion in 1990, Angelica couldn’t figure whether it would be a boy or a girl thus creating the twins.
BuzzFeed sat down with “Rugrats” creator Arlene Klasky at San Diego Comic-Con last week, where she was speaking on the panel “Happy Happy! Joy Joy!: 25 Years of Nickelodeon Original Animation,” and asked her about the theory. Alas, it’s all a farce.
