The move comes amid a wave of new plant-based meat offerings from retailers and restaurants.

Watch out, McDonald’s ― Tim Hortons is muscling in on your turf.

The doughnut and coffee chain announced Wednesday it’s rolling out a Beyond Burger and a BBQ Beyond Burger, both made from plant-based Beyond Meat patties.

This marks the first time Tim Hortons has offered a burger, the company says, and the decision was made apparently because it was easy to do.

“The burger patty is prepared in the same way as the Beyond Sausage patty for the new breakfast sandwiches,” Tim Hortons said in a press statement.

The chain announced in May it is introducing Beyond Meat breakfast sausage patties to its menu.

It’s part of a rush by food retailers and restaurants to cash in on the rapidly growing popularity of plant-based meat alternatives. Beyond Meat’s shares have increased in value many times over since the company debuted on the stock market in May.

Tim Hortons’ Beyond Meat burgers launch today in 4,000 locations across the country. The burgers cost $5.69 a pop, though prices may vary regionally, the company said.
