Sen. Ted Cruz (R-Texas) tried Twitter sarcasm to comment on Tuesday’s clash between President Donald Trump, and House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) and Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer (D-N.Y.). It backfired.
Cruz facetiously asked why Pelosi wanted reporters kept out of the room during the meeting over border security. The negotiation turned into a spectacle as Trump argued with the Democratic leaders, threatening to shut down the government if he couldn’t secure funding for his border wall.
Gosh, why do you think Nancy wanted the press out of the room? Why didn’t she want the American People to hear this discussion? https://t.co/LFwEesyo7e

You asked, Senator.
Twitter answered.
Because she has some sense of dignity and decorum?
— John Yuma (@JohnYuma) December 12, 2018
Because she didn't want to school DJT in public out of respect then was left with no alternative?
— Rep. Rick Larsen (@RepRickLarsen) December 12, 2018
It's called mercy, Ted.

Answer: to save *45 from complete humiliation.

Because she was dealing with a very sick individual? And was trying not to publicly embarrass him bc she is a decent person?

That’s all you got? She wants to deal with reality - not an apprentice reality tv show taping in the Oval Office. We certainly all heard what Trump said about your Dad and wife tho.
— Martha (@BaumMartha) December 12, 2018
Probably because although the President isn't her favorite, it's important to ensure the office of the Presidency isn't affected by him fumbling and stumbling and lying and just overall making a fool of himself in front of the American people. But... What do I know...
— Ed Kennedy (@edmund012) December 12, 2018
The point, Ted. Ya missed it.
— Travis Miller (@JustTMill) December 12, 2018
Were you not listening? She said it was because she didn’t want to continue to contradict the president in public. That in order to debate they need to agree on one set of facts. He sat there lying. Why on earth would she continue a debate that is better suited for Congress?
