What Is 'Perfection' Anyway?

Perfection cannot be defined by a size zero body type or a six figure bank statement. Instead, perfection is a state of mind which simply needs to be realized and can only be achieved when one is in harmony with themselves and the universe around them.

Are you perfect?

Some people would claim to be so without a second thought, while others will give you endless reasons why they are far from it. From not being thin enough to not being rich enough, the excuses are as long as you would like them to be.

This makes me wonder: is perfection just a myth or a fact?

If perfection is fact, then how come everyone who claims to be perfect, are critiqued endlessly, while people who we think might be perfect would never accept it themselves? If perfection is a myth, then why do we spend all our lives questing for such a mythical state of existence?

Could our definition of "perfection" possibly need some tweaking?

Now I'm not referring to the arrogant interpretation of perfection, the kind that gives the bearer a feeling of being better than everyone else. We all know how annoying it is to be around such personalities. I'm talking about the kind of perfection that brings you at peace with yourself and everyone around you. The kind where you are aware of your positives and negatives and though there are always things you can improve in yourself, these improvements themselves are not a prerequisite to your happiness and contentment.

We all have spent our share of time fretting about things that are not right and postponing being happy until everything reaches an ideal state. We decide that we will be happy when we have no more health concerns or financial troubles, when we are in harmony with all our relationships and when people love us the way we would like them too.

But what we miss to realize is the fact that this in reality works the other way around. The happier we are the better care we take of ourselves, the more we smile and the more others fall in love with us. The more we value ourselves the better choices we make, financially and personally, which in turn create positive changes in our lives.

You've got to love yourself, realize and feel your awesomeness before someone else will notice it. No one wants to date a grumpy fella now do they?

People say perfection is unattainable but I think the reason we cannot attain it, is not because we aren't good enough but because it isn't a physical state in the first place. Perfection cannot be defined by a size zero body type or a six figure bank statement. Neither can it be defined with a picture perfect family or a Fortune 500 career.

Instead, perfection is a state of mind which simply needs to be realized and can only be achieved when one is in harmony with themselves and the universe around them. You don't need chase perfection; rather just bring your awareness to realize it as it already exists around you. It is a state where you learn to accept yourself the way you are.

Though perfection by no means is a static state and like most other things it is also a dynamic mode of existence. It is an evolving and ever changing state where you can take it in the direction you want. We are perfect at this very moment though we can always choose to enhance our idea of perfection for the next moment and change ourselves accordingly.

The key to realizing your awesomeness is to stop judging yourself or the world around you and fixing situations that cause you unhappiness with love and affection. It's like teaching a child to walk, when he loses his grip we gently hold his hand and help him regain his balance. We don't shun the child down with negativity. Then why are we so harsh to our own inner child?

Deepak Chopra once said, "Your fellow man is your mirror. If your own face is clean, the image you perceive will also be flawless."

So the question still remains for you to answer: are you perfect?
