How wonderful that the Huffington Post now has a Canadian base.

HuffPost's unique approach to current events -- a mash up of original reporting, the best stories of the day, blogger opinion, gadfly posts and rich reader interaction -- makes for engaging reading. Having this kind of platform to communicate Canadian news, perspectives and cultural happenings provides us with a unique opportunity to enhance our sense of each other and who knows... perhaps even advance our collective vision for Canada.

But it does something else which is fantastic. By virtue of our now being part of the Huffington Post family, we will likely have greater access for getting our stories and opinions onto the pages of the Huffington Post's U.S. website. This strikes me as a terrific added bonus.

I have always been perplexed by how tiny our voice is on the world stage... particularly given our achievements both socially and economically. This reality was reinforced to me recently when I attended a dinner party in Washington. It was the night after a pretty historic Canadian election and my tablemate was a very senior official in the Obama administration. He knew that we had just had an election but confided to me he was unaware of the outcome.

"We love Canada," he said, "and most particularly because we never have to worry too much about you."

Geesh!

So welcome to HuffPost Canada. It's great to have you here. Clearly you agree that we are a lot more interesting than most outside our borders think!
