Police Commissioner Charged In Child Porn Case

CBC The chairman of the police commission in Taber, south of Calgary, has been arrested and charged with child pornography offences, officials said Tuesday.

The charges arose after officials with the U.S. Department of Homeland Security contacted Canadian authorities about an alleged cyber-relationship between a Taber man and a young American girl, officials with the Alberta Law Enforcement Response Teams (ALERT) said.

ALERT's Internet Child Exploitation (ICE) Unit worked with U.S. police on the investigation.

A search warrant was executed at the man's Taber home on Tuesday. Police seized computers and related hardware for forensic examination, officials said.

Curtis David Paradee, 42, was arrested and remains in custody. He faces numerous charges including accessing child pornography and communicating with a person under 16 for the purpose of committing an offence.

The offences are alleged to have happened between July and October 2010.

Paradee has been a member of the Taber police commission for five years, officials said.

Taber is about 200 kilometres southeast of Calgary.
