For the next 30 days, we're checking out how to take a break from your busy holiday schedule and relax -- in unexpected ways.

THE EXPERT:

The Huffington Post Canada talked to owner and designer of Lauren Elan Collections, Lauren McMillan about an easy DIY project to try at home for the perfect holiday gift.

HuffPost: How do you suggest taking a break from the stresses of the holidays?

Over the holidays, it's easy to preoccupy ourselves with task upon task, often forgetting to take time to enjoy the many creative opportunities that the holidays present. If you are a creative person, it's worth it to devote a few hours to a fun project that will give you the freedom to express yourself creatively (whether it's on your own, or with your kids). It can be such a relaxing experience, and very rewarding when you end up with a final product. Give yourself a chance to bring out your inner creativity and imagination this season and get your hands messy.
