Jordan Ghawi lost his sister Jessica Ghawi in last week's horrific theatre shooting in Aurora, Colorado.
In recent days, Jordan, has spoken out about shifting the conversation away from alleged shooter James Holmes and towards the innocent victims of the tragedy.
One way that Ghawi is doing this is by raising money for a memorial fund in his sister's memory.
"The Jessica RedField Sports Journalism Fund will be seed money for the scholarship to help send another upcoming young sports talent to study journalism," states a recently-launched Indiegogo site.
The fund has raised more than $18,000 in a single day. One of the biggest supporters of the fund could have been the Stanley Cup winning LA Kings, who reportedly donated $10,000 to the fund.
Jessica Ghawi, who tweeted under the name Jessica Redfield, was an aspiring sports journalist who had interned for a number of media outlets and sports organizations.
She was among the first of the victims to be named in Friday's massacre and former employers and fellow sports journalists wrote touching tributes to the 24-year-old "redheaded Texan spitfire."
Colorado's hockey community is also coming together to remember Ghawi and holding an on ice memorial this weekend.
Friday's attack wasn't her first brush with violence this summer. Ghawi wrote a moving post after surviving an attack at Toronto's Eaton Centre mall in June (see her tweets from that below).
