Canada's women artistic gymnastics team made it to the finals Tuesday but they couldn't make it to the podium. The team of five placed fifth with a total score of 170.804 after their performance on the vault, uneven bars, beam and floor exercise.
Despite each member being being a first-time Olympian, the group of five consisting of Elisabeth Black, Victoria Moors, Dominique Pegg, Brittany Rogers and Kristina Vaculik made history Sunday when they qualified for the finals for the first time in a non-boycotted Olympic games.
The group faced against a tough group of competitors including the U.S., China and Russia -- all favoured contenders to take medals in the event. Still, Canada managed to place ahead of Britain, Italy and Japan while the U.S. secured a gold-medal finish. Russia's gymnasts followed suit by taking silver with Romania taking bronze.
