The crash of a Piper Comanche aircraft near Brenda Mines has claimed a second life.

Lauren Patricia Sewell, a 24-year-old Surrey woman, was confirmed as the second fatality in the plane crash that took place last Monday when the small aircraft travelling from Penticton to Boundary Bay crashed about 30 kilometres from Kelowna. She was predeceased by 30-year-old Dallas Smith, who died in the crash.

Sewell and Smith were a couple. Smith wanted to cross a plane trip off his bucket list and Sewell bought him the trip as a 30th birthday present, the Vancouver Sun reports.

Julia Angelopoulos, a longtime friend of Smith's, told the Sun that Smith had just earned a millwright ticket from BCIT and intended to work in Australia.

The BC Coroners Service said in a news release that Sewell was airlifted to a Kelowna hospital with severe injuries that were "not survivable."

"The BC Coroners Service commends the family for the generosity of their decision in a time of immense grief," chief coroner Lisa Lapointe said in a news release. "Despite the tragedy of their daughter's death, they were able through organ donation to provide hope to as many as six other individuals and families.

"Though Ms. Sewell's life has ended tragically and too soon, she has given an amazing gift to others."

Two other people who were on the plane remain in hospital with critical injuries.

The Coroners Service and the Transportation Safety Board are investigating the crash.
