Homicide investigators have taken over the case of human remains found in North Vancouver over the weekend.

The remains were found on Saturday night on a wooded pathway near a residential cul-de-sac and a Travelodge hotel, reported the Province.

RCMP Sgt. Jennifer Pound of the Integrated Homicide Investigation Team (IHIT) said testing is needed to determine the cause of death but it appears to be suspicious.

“There are many unanswered questions in these early stages and much of the details of the findings can’t be released at this time as we are pursuing this as a homicide investigation,” Pound said in a news release on Monday.

She told News 1130 that it looks like there were attempts to conceal the body.

She said police will be canvassing the neighbourhood throughout the day. Investigators will be processing the scene — off Curling Road, west of Capilano Road — for several more days which means the area will be closed to pedestrians.

An entomologist has been called in to help determine when the victim died, reported News 1130. The remains are so decomposed, it will take some time to identify the remains, as well as the victim’s gender, Pound added.
